Construction to build new convent for Missionary Benedictine Sisters
In June, the Missionary Benedictine Sisters, who have served at the Mission since 1975, recommitted to long term service at St. Augustine Indian Mission. However, new living quarters were needed. Since the close of the boarding school in 1987, the Sisters have lived in a variety of places on the campus. Currently they reside in a double-wide trailor which does not provide adequate safety against Nebraska storms.
Construction began in October 2011 on a new 6 bedroom/bath convent, which will provide a residence designed specifically for the Sisters, including a chapel. It is being constructed with LiteForm, which is manufactured in nearby South Sioux City, NE, and poured concrete. It will be safe and energy efficient.
